Robert Chapel, Director, Fifty Years and Counting, has directed over 145 plays and musicals and produced over 200 in his career, internationally and throughout the U.S. Stage Director (1987-2015, 2017), Managing Director (1990-1995), Producing Artistic Director (1995-2015) for the Heritage Theatre at UVA. Directed Sweeney Todd in Moscow, Russia, She Stoops to Conquer in Launceston, Tasmania, Broadway X Three: U.S. State Department eight city tour of Russia, Professor (1990-2016) and Chair (1990-2005) UVA Drama. Life Achievement Award from Virginia Theatre Association. UVA Raven Faculty Award. Previously on faculties of University of Michigan, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, San Diego State University, University of Alabama. Directed inaugural production, Playing for Time, for the Arthur Miller Theatre at University of Michigan. Academic Dean for Semester at Sea 2009 around-the-world voyage. Great love to and admiration for all the amazing students, actors, directors, designers, technicians, and UVA administrators who collaborated with me for so many years to make the Heritage Theatre special as well as to my wife Maria who has kept me on an even keel, putting up with my mania, these many years.
